CanonEdit

In the Silmarillion, Idril was a child at the time of the crossing of the Ice, where she lost her mother. She lived in her father's city when it was completed, and was known for her great powers of insight or foresight. She was the object of her cousin Maeglin's obsessive desire, although this remained unrequited, and she eventually married the mortal Tuor who came to Gondolin as the messenger of Ulmo. She predicted the Fall of Gondolin and had a secret way of escape prepared before the city fell under attack, and so escaped with her family and some other survivors. She lived at the Havens of Sirion until her husband began to age, then they sailed together into the West.
